Health and Safety Policy — Mega Rubbish
Mega Rubbish is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all staff, contractors and visitors. This Health and Safety policy sets out the approach of MegaRubbish to identify, assess and control risks arising from waste collection, transport and site operations. It explains responsibilities, procedures and the standards we apply to ensure that every task is carried out with safety as a priority. The policy applies to all activities carried out under the Mega Rubbish name and supports a culture of continuous improvement and proactive risk management.
Responsibilities and Leadership
Management at Mega Rubbish Ltd will lead by example and ensure there are adequate resources for health and safety. Line managers and supervisors are responsible for implementing the H&S policy in their areas and for ensuring staff are competent to perform their roles safely. Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and to cooperate with all safety arrangements. The company will maintain clear accountability, with documented roles and a structure to respond to changing operations and hazards.
Risk Assessment and Hazard Control
Workplace hazards will be identified and evaluated through regular risk assessments, inspections and task observations. Controls will follow the hierarchy of hazard control where practicable: elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls and personal protective equipment (PPE). Key operational controls include:- Safe handling procedures for bulky, sharp or hazardous waste;
- Traffic management on yards and during collection rounds;
- Maintenance schedules for vehicles and handling equipment;
- PPE standards and availability for all operatives.
Training, Competence and Supervision
All operatives will receive appropriate induction, site-specific briefings and ongoing training to maintain competence in their tasks. Training covers manual handling, safe lifting, vehicle operations, use of mechanical aids, and awareness of hazardous substances. Supervisors will provide close supervision for new staff and refresher sessions for experienced staff. Records of training and competence will be maintained, and training needs will be reviewed after incidents or significant procedure changes.
Emergency Preparedness and Incident Response
Effective emergency procedures are essential. Mega Rubbish maintains documented plans for incidents such as vehicle collisions, spills, fires and medical emergencies. First aid equipment and trained first-aiders are available on sites as appropriate. All incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions must be reported promptly through the company reporting system so that corrective actions and learning can be implemented. Investigation of incidents will focus on root causes and prevention rather than blame.Operations involving waste transport and skip services will follow clear operational controls to reduce exposure to common industry risks. These include routine pre-use checks of vehicles and lifting equipment, secure loading and unloading procedures, and strict adherence to safe working distances around moving vehicles. The Mega Rubbish safety approach also covers safe stacking, segregation of materials and appropriate labelling of hazardous loads. Environmental considerations such as spill containment and waste separation are part of everyday safe practice.
Monitoring, auditing and performance measurement underpin the H&S policy. Management will conduct regular site inspections, safety audits and toolbox talks to ensure compliance with standards and to identify emerging risks. Key performance indicators will include incident rates, near-miss reports, training completion rates and corrective action closure times. We will encourage open reporting and a learning culture where improvements are made based on evidence and staff input. Continuous review ensures the policy remains relevant to operational changes and evolving best practice.
Incident Investigation and Record KeepingAll accidents and significant near misses are investigated to identify contributory factors and to implement corrective actions. Records of investigations, risk assessments, training, and equipment maintenance are retained in accordance with company policy to enable trend analysis and risk reduction planning. The emphasis is on practical, proportionate measures that prevent recurrence and protect people from harm while allowing the business to operate efficiently and responsibly.
Commitment and Review Mega Rubbish H&S policy is endorsed by senior management and reviewed periodically to ensure ongoing effectiveness. Employees are encouraged to contribute suggestions for safer ways of working and to raise concerns without fear of reprisal. The company aims to achieve measurable reductions in harm and exposure through leadership, participation and continuous improvement. This policy complements operational procedures, safe systems of work, and training programs that together form the framework for protecting health and safety across all Mega Rubbish activities.
